The primary goal of WikiPhone is to become the world's largest knowledge base about telephones. As such, we accept contributors from around the world to help us achieve this. Contributors can make new articles, edit, correct, and add to existing articles and discuss changes to the wiki with other contributors. Below are the steps required to become a contributor of WikiPhone.

1. Read and understand the rules

In order to keep WikiPhone positive, we have to enforce rules. We try not to make these rules super strict, and we hope everything can understand them. If you have any feedback on the rules, you may contact us, and we may consider hearing your augments on why we should change them, However, the rules are listed here and are as follows, and applies to the website, discussion panels, Discord server, and any WikiPhone chatrooms:

  1. All Discord members must follow Discord TOS (including 13+). We allow anyone (with parental consent if under the age of 13) to contribute to WikiPhone if they can write well. However, in order to use our Discord server, you need to follow their terms of service. Which includes being 13+. This is not a choice we get to make, but its still there.
  2. This is a professional environment. Please keep swearing to a minimum, and no NSFW is allowed.
  3. Introduction of politics or political discussion is prohibited in any WikiPhone chatroom, or panel. UNLESS: It's relevant to discussion of an article. (Examples include (but not limited to): The bell breakup, Kari's Law, articles about government telephony infrastructure). The world is a mess and everything is becoming political these days. This environment is not going to become one, we need an escape from the endless issues of the world, every once in awhile.
  4. WikiPhone has a ZERO drama tolerance policy. Starting drama and introduction of external drama in any way shape or form is prohibited at all times. Anyone who breaks this rule is subject to immediately being banned from this server, and having their WikiPhone account permanently blocked with no chance to appeal. This is NOT middle school, so we will NOT tolerate middle school behavior. If you have an issue with someone or if someone is being an issue and it's a reasonable request or message (meaning there is a genuine issue within WikiPhone, rather than you nagging to us about something going on in another community), you can bring it up to us privately by emailing us, and we will handle it. Otherwise, keep it out of here.
  5. Introduction of topics not relevant to the wiki other then in the off topic channels and wiki discussion channels is prohibited.
  6. Spam, harassment, bullying, etc. is prohibited.
  7. Use of generative artificial intelligence or another machine system for any purpose other then correcting grammar of your own writing is prohibited.
  8. No irreverent self promotion, other then in your introduction message on the Discord server.
  9. All edits to the wiki must follow our editor guidelines.
  10. If you are contacting a WikiPhone administrator via their telephones.wiki email or extension on the WikiPhone phone system, it should be for official inquiries or business only. We don't want to be bothered by something that is not important. If you would like to contact us casually, you can find our other contact methods out there such as on YouTube or Discord.

2. Get familiar with the editor guidelines

As stated in the rules, everyone editing the wiki must follow editor guidelines. You can find our editor guidelines here.

3. Request an account

Now that you (hopefully) understand the rules by now, the next step is to request an account. You can find the form to do so here or on the top of the page as long as you are signed out. You will then fill out the form. Once you are doing filling it out, check your email for a verification link. Clicking the link will verify your email address and allow you to contribute to the wiki. Even if we approve your account, you will still need a verified email to contribute, and verifying your email will speed up the process of getting verified. If you cannot see this email, check your spam/junk folder. If you still cannot see it, you may have inputted your email wrong. If you did this, you may fill out the form again, and state in the additional notes section that you got your email wrong on the last submission, and we will delete your old submission.

4. Keep checking your email

Within 48 hours of sending the account request, you will receive a follow up email. The follow up email will either say your request or denied, or will be a request for more information to help verify you. We will likely request more information if you are a higher profile individual (such as a larger content creator) to help us verify it's you rather than an imposter. Please be aware that WE WILL NEVER request for personal information, including government-issued ID's or passports, passwords (even your WikiPhone password), social security numbers, addresses, etc. Do not give anyone posing as us this information. Once your account is approved, your email will include a temporary one time password to login for the first time.

5. Login for the first time and set your password

Even if you do not plan to use your account for awhile, you should still change your password. When logging in for the first time, use your email/username and password. And when logging in, you will be prompted to set your password. We highly recommend using a password that you do not use on any other website. Please note that WikiPhone administrators will never ask for this password as we can do any support or administration tasks from our end without using your account. Once you set your password you now officially have access to your account and can now login.

6. Make your first edit

You can now officially start editing WikiPhone! If you are familiar with editing Wikipedia, you should feel right at home here. If you need help, follow the new editors guide.

If you would like to create a page, you can click the "create a page" hyperlink on the left toolbar. To edit a page, find the page you would like to edit and click edit. Please note that some pages about highly controversial topics or have a high likelihood of being vandalized may only be editable by an administrator or a user with a high amount of edits.
